A floating home
For Søren Hvalsøe Garde and his wife Rita, the decision to trade a spacious home on land for a houseboat in Copenhagen Harbour marked the beginning of a new chapter. Here, between Christianshavn and the Opera House, they have created a home where architecture, materials, and daily life are shaped by the presence of the water.

The 140 m² houseboat features a minimalist interior with a series of bespoke solutions.
The kitchen is the Solid model, crafted in solid oak with a striking countertop in Quarzite Breccia Imperiale.
The space is designed with attention to both function and atmosphere – a setting for everyday moments and intimate dinners alike, with views across the water. Large windows and open decks create a seamless flow between inside and out, while the harbour’s shifting light and life form a vibrant backdrop to the home.

Inside, warm oak surfaces, tactile details, and custom Garde Hvalsøe elements establish a natural continuity between rooms. One of the more personal touches is the private ladder leading directly from the harbour to the bathroom – a thoughtful feature that allows for a chilly morning dip followed by a hot shower in seconds.
