FOUNDER AND CEO
The two gentlemen behind Garde Hvalsøe are both trained cabinetmakers and dedicated to quality craftsmanship, people and creating settings for life. Meet founder Søren Hvalsøe Garde and CEO Søren Lundh Aagaard.
The first Garde Hvalsøe kitchen was made in 1992 as a study in quality, cabinetmaking, and restraint. The approach remains the same today: bespoke kitchens and interiors, crafted in Denmark and shaped around the individual home.
There is a particular rhythm to a Garde Hvalsøe design, a recognisable signature shaped by our attention to woodworking and a deep understanding of materials. Since our beginning in 1990, our purpose has remained the same: to create bespoke kitchens and interiors where proportion, material and construction come together, rooted in Danish cabinetmaking tradition. The first kitchen, made in 1992, was a study in quality and restraint, and the principles it established still guide our work today.
Every project is shaped around a specific home, a specific architecture and the life lived within it. From the first drawings to the finished interior, the work is held together by precision and a sense of the whole, so that every detail belongs to the room it becomes part of.
What distinguishes Garde Hvalsøe is the ability to interpret and realise the intentions of architects and interior designers, translating a drawing into something built with the same care with which it was imagined. We work as a design and production partner on complex, highly tailored projects, and more than three decades of experience stand behind that collaboration.
Production remains in Denmark, close to the master cabinetmakers who shape each piece. This keeps us connected to the making, allows us to hold every project to the standard we set, and carries forward a craft tradition we believe is worth preserving.
Garde Hvalsøe is more than a place of design. It is a workshop where people grow in their craft, and where the care taken in the work reflects the care taken with one another. From the first sketch to the finished interior, we work with respect for the material, for the craft and for the people who choose to make Garde Hvalsøe part of their home.

We have always taken pride in producing honest, carefully made furniture. Garde Hvalsøe is now a Certified B Corporation™, and that same standard now guides how we run the house, not only what we make.
B Corp certification measures a company against verified standards across governance, workers, community and environment. It asks not what a company sells, but how it conducts itself. For a house built on craft and lasting relationships, this is a natural framework. It holds us to the same standard in our conduct that we hold ourselves to in our work.
Much of what the certification asks for is already how we work. Production remains in Denmark, close to the master cabinetmakers who shape every piece. Materials are chosen for their quality and their capacity to endure. For us, responsibility begins with making enduring objects: furniture that honours both the people who use it and the materials from which it is made. Furniture made to last for generations remains the most responsible thing we know how to do.
Certification is not a conclusion. It is renewed over time, and the assessment sets out where we can still improve. We welcome that. A workshop is never finished learning its craft, and neither is the house around it. Our full B Corp assessment is published openly by B Lab.

Garde Hvalsøe is a tribute to the work of the hand and the quiet refinement of form, shaped by cabinetmakers and craftsmen across generations.
Each piece of furniture and bespoke interior is handcrafted at our workshop in Denmark. Shaped by skilled hands and trained eyes with a deep sense of proportion and detail.
A craft guided by presence, material understanding and respect for the life it will live alongside.
